In this ASE certified program, student use problem-solving skills while learning automotive principles such as engine operation and repair, brakes and front ends, suspension, steering and alignment, computer controls, fuel injection, electrical systems, heat/air conditioning systems and more.  To be employable in this career field, individuals should have a clean driving record and no criminal record.  Students are given the opportunity to obtain credentials through Oklahoma Department of Vocational and Technical Education and AYES testing and certification.

 

• College Credit is available through Western Oklahoma State College.

 

•Automotive Services Technology is a part of the Engineering & Technology Career Cluster.

 

•Suggested prerequisites are: English I and II, Applied Math and Algebra I.

 

• Suggested reading and comprehension at or above 11th grade level.

 

 

High priority is placed on attendance. Reliability in the work place is the single most valued employee trait in today’s job market.

 

Dress Code

Transportation

 

While in shop area, students are required to wear safety glasses, closed toe leather shoes (safety toe preferred) and lightweight coveralls or AYES work uniform with a belt and shirt tucked in.

 

 

Students participating in AYES program will need to provide their own transportation to the work site and home school.

•All incoming students are required to interview with instructor prior to acceptance in program.

 

• Parents’ Night – A Parent Teacher Student meeting will be held at the beginning of the term.  All students and at least one parent/guardian will be expected to attend.

 

 

Students in this class have the opportunity to test their recently learned skills through various district, state and national competitions through SkillsUSA – VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, Inc.) and other competitions.

 

• All students are members

• 1st year students are

required to complete

SkillsUSA PDP Levels 1 & 2.

• 2nd year students will

complete Level 3.

 

Students will also have the opportunity to participate in several SkillsUSA and leadership camps and conferences.

 

Employment
