This program is designed to prepare students for high paying jobs as aircraft maintenance technicians and support personnel.  Students receive training in aircraft painting, sheet metal, electricity, nondestructive testing, welding, wood and fabric work, composite structures, landing gear repair and aircraft taxiing.  This program is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration and strictly adheres to F.A.A. guidelines.  This is a class for serious students with clear career goals. 

 

• Aviation and Aerospace Technology is part of the Engineering & Technology Career Cluster.

 

• College credit is available through Western Oklahoma State College.

 

 

Suggested prerequisites are:  English I and II, Algebra I and Geometry

 

 

 

The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) mandates the Aviation and Aerospace Program’s attendance policy.  All time missed from class must be made up hour for hour.  There are no exceptions!  Example: A student misses a half-day (3 hours) due to illness.  That student must make arrangements with the instructor to stay after class to make up (seat time) of three hours.

Employment Opportunities
Apprenticeships

 

After successful completion of the Aviation and Aerospace Technology Program, students should take the FAA tests: General and Airframe for national licensure.  These exams are given on the Western Oklahoma State campus.  Employment opportunities are exceptional in both the private sector and in civil service.

 

Average starting hourly income:  $14.00 – $16.00.

 

 

After approximately 525 hours of training, students are eligible to participate in the apprenticeship program with the A-TEAM (Civilian Aircraft Maintenance) on Altus Air Force Base.  Acceptance into the apprenticeship program is based on grades, attendance and attitude. Final acceptance into their program will be dependant upon the ability to obtain security clearance and passing required drug screening.  During apprenticeship, students obtain work-place experience and earn approximately $10.00 per hour.

***Depth perception test required for A-TEAM employment.

 

Mandatory Orientation Meeting
