The Health Science Program provides diverse training opportunities in
the health care career field. Students
learn CPR, first aid, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and
much more. Clinical training
is completed at various health care facilities and offers an excellent
opportunity to receive practical experience in a chosen health care
occupation. Individuals may have difficulty finding employment
in this career field with certain criminal charges on record. This program is designed for secondary students
only. |
• HST I – School issue or you may purchase your
own. Lab jackets must have school logo
or identification tags. If a school
uniform is lost, the responsible student must reimburse the school for its
replacement. • HST II – Students may wear any color scrubs, but
must have a white lab jacket with school logo or identification tags. |
Lecture, video,
research, hands-on skills, OJT (clinical rotations), role-playing, problem
solving and Power Point.

• HST I students are bused to clinical rotation sites. HST II drive their own vehicles if permission slips signed by both parent/guardian and high school principal are on file. • HST II students
may ride the bus on days all students are out of the classroom and attending
clinical rotations. |

· Professional Attire: Pants, skirt or dress (khaki or navy blue), Dress shirt or blouse, dress shoes, tie or pantyhose. · Clinical Rotations: Navy blue scrubs, white lab jacket (your
own or school issued), watch with second hand and white (or mostly white)
leather closed-toe tennis type shoes (nursing shoes may be purchased, but are
not required). · Official HOSA Attire: Navy blazer, medical white pants or skirt,
pantyhose or black/blue socks, white blouse or shirt with collar and maroon
tie. |
• Due to the nature of the health risk within the
health care field, all students are required to have the following
immunizations: 1.
Hepatitis B 2.
TB Tine 3.
Rubella 4.
Rubeola 5.
VSG 6.
Tider • Suggested prerequisites include Algebra I and II,
Biology, Chemistry and English I and II. · |
• HST I – Experience begins with 32 hours at local nursing care centers. After completing the 32 hour state requirement, students take a state exam to become a Certified Nurses’ Aid or Orderly. Students may select a specialty training area only after completing the 32 hour requirement. •HST II – Clinical rotations are the student’s choice provided the selected site is under contract with SWTC. Students may select two areas and spend up to 4-6 weeks at each site. • Before entering the hospital, students will be required to pass a Drug Screen. If not passed, entrance is prohibited. |
