ENTRANCE GUIDELINES

  1. This program is open to any applicant regardless of race, color, national origin, sex/gender, age, disability or veteran status that is able to perform the physical, emotional and cognitive functions necessary to give sage, competent patient care.   2. The applicant must have a high school diploma or General Educational Development Equivalent (GED). A copy of your high school transcript or GED scores must be on file before you can be scheduled for the pre-entrance exams.
  3. Fill out the application, be sure to include a copy of your high school transcript and/or GED. Include certificates of training from vocational training or transcripts from college, if applicable.
  4. Applicants are required to take a pre-nursing course at no charge for the course consisting of language, reading and math or can clepe the course by a grade equivalent of 9.0 or better on the TABE test. Arrangements for individualized courses in language, reading and math are made with Tiffany McCormack at 477-2250 ext. 265 to schedule course times in the Enhancement Center. Applicants cleping the TABE test with a grade equivalent of 9.0 or better in language, reading and math are not required to take the pre-nursing course and will be competitive for acceptance into the Practical Nursing program. There is a $5.00 fee for the TABE test payable in cash only (no checks) on the date tested. There are only three forms of the TABE test and each form of the test can be taken only one time each. Therefore, you can take the TABE only three times. Once a pre-nursing course applicant has passed the TABE with an equivalent of 9.0 or better, they will be become competitive for the Practical Nursing applicant pool.
  5. The PSB (Psychological Services Bureau) is a nursing aptitude assessment, which tests general mental ability, spelling, natural science, judgment in practical nursing situations, and personal adjustment. A $15.00 fee is charged for the PSB test payable in cash only (no checks) on the date tested. Points are given from this test toward acceptance into the Practical Nursing program.
  6. Applicants may test the TABE test starting in May of each year through November. The PSB will be given once a month beginning in June through November.

ALL APPLICANTS MEETING THE ADMISSION CRITERIAWILL BE INVITED TO AN INFORMATION NIGHT IN DECEMBER. APPLICANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED BEFORE THE HOLIDAY BREAK IN DECEMBER AS TO ADMISSION INTO THE 2007-2008 PRACTICAL NURSING CLASS BEGINS THE LAST MONDAY OF FEBRUABY 2007.

APPLICANTS WITH THE HIGHEST SCORES WILL BE ADMITTED INTO THE PROGRAM.
Students that come under Federal guidelines and regulations are considered in-district and will be given priority status. All other students will be charged the out-of-district tuition rate on a space available status.
